This role requires a results-driven professional with strong interpersonal and communication skills, a passion for process improvement, and the ability to lead and mentor a diverse team and foster a growth mindset. They design and implement training programs for the accounting team and evaluate the effectiveness of these programs.
You will manage day-to-day accounting processes, review financial reports, and maintain critical documentation of processes.
The Manager is also responsible for ensuring the accounting team delivers accurate and timely financial reporting for commercial real estate investments while overseeing the operations and culture of the accounting team.
As an Accounting Operations Manager, you will play a crucial part in supporting the financial health of our clients while ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our accounting firm’s production team. The ideal candidate will interact with and advise clients on their financials, helping them make informed decisions to drive their business to achieve success.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership Management:
- Provide regular coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to team members.
- Conduct training sessions to improve technical skills and professional development.
- Foster a positive and collaborative team culture.
- Support cross-functional financial analysis and prepare actionable client insights.
- Develops, implements, modifies, and documents computer-based recordkeeping and accounting systems.
- Assist in crafting financial plans and analyzing client financial performance.
- Review accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Review team deliverables to ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Address and resolve errors or inconsistencies in financial reporting.
- Maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information with integrity.
- Exercise a high degree of independent judgment, problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle complex work.
- Track team performance metrics such as productivity, quality of work, and adherence to deadlines.
- Prepare reports on the team's performance for senior leadership.
- Identify opportunities for processing automation and efficiency improvements.
- Responsible for oversight of new acquisition onboarding and preparing opening entries.
- Responsible for oversight of annual CAM budgets and ensure accurate financial reporting packages.
- Work closely with other departments, such as property management and finance, to support overall business objectives.
- Manage and motivate a multi-level team, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
- Conduct team meetings and training sessions.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP principles and accounting standards.
- Maintain and update comprehensive documentation of internal and client-specific processes.
- Reports to clients on the finances of their businesses; reviews of financials with clients on a monthly, quarterly, and/or annual basis (based on engaged services) via video or in-person meetings.
- Act as a liaison between the production team and clients to ensure expectations are managed and deliverables are accurate.
- Respond to client inquiries, address questions, and provide clarity on financial reports, forecasts, and analysis to ensure clients are well-informed and confident in the financial status of their properties or investments.
- Assist with special projects related to quarterly close reporting processes, budgets, audits (internal and external), investor, and lender requirements.
- Provide updates to clients about progress and address concerns in a timely manner.
- Documents processes and procedures both internally and for clients.
- Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
- Build trust with clients through clear communication, timely deliverables, and reliable service.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (preferred).
- 5+ years of work experience in commercial real estate accounting.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience managing or supervising teams.
- Familiarity with commercial lease agreements, terms, Accounting and Administration practices.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Real Page, MRI, Yardi) and Microsoft Office 365, with advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to quickly learn employer-specific web-based software programs.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
- High Level of Emotional Intelligence to include conflict resolution while maintaining a positive team dynamic.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with a customer service-oriented mindset.
- Proven ability to implement process improvements and execute plans effectively.
- Strong leadership to manage and motivate a diverse team while maintaining high standards of quality and performance.
- Experience in client-facing roles with the ability to discuss financial data in a clear and concise manner, ensuring client satisfaction and understanding.
